How it all began ...

This establishment first showed up in the historical records as a boarding house in 1795.

It was probably named "Mohrenwirtschaft" starting in the year 1808. In 1866 the old building was torn down and rebuilt as the "Kronenwirtschaft".

The son of the "Hirschwirtschaft" in Hirschegg, Eduard Seelenmayer, bought the establishment in 1893. This is where the story of the family now owning the "Alte Krone" begins. Eduard was the father of 5 children: Max, Antonia, Meinrade, Bernadette and Karl. After their parents' death the last three, all single, took over the "Kronenwirtschaft", which remained a very popular meeting point for the local "Walser" residents as well as for numerous prominent individuals.

Popular meeting point - famous guests

The guest list includes such known names as Albert and Moritz Einstein (1863), Prince Friedrich of Hohenzollern-Siegmaringen (1927), Crown Princess Cecilie of Preußen (1936+37), General de Gaulle (1946) and many other prominent guests. The hotel was located on the ground where the current "Alte Krone Landhaus" stands.

In the 1940's the number of visitors increased greatly and therefore central heating and running water were installed. Theresia Amann, the daughter of Antonia, entered the business in 1953 and, with her husband, the forester Hubert Kaufmann, started building the "Hotel Alte Krone" in 1965 on the new location where it is situated today. Exactly 100 years after the completion of the last new building (in 1866 - the original "Alte Krone Landhaus"), the new building "Hotel Alte Krone" was commissioned by a festival on 14th January 1966. In 1968 the indoor swimming pool was completed and then, in 1972, there was a general room upgrade. Until 1987 the old building was used as apartments for the employees and as a ski school office. In 1988 the building was torn down and the new "Alte Krone Landhaus" was built with comfortable vacation apartments.

"Thesis" sons Hubert and Max extensively renovated and upgraded the "Hotel Alte Krone" in late 1995. Today our 3-Star "Hotel Alte Krone" with the "Alte Krone Landhaus" and the "Alte Krone Forsthaus" (which was built in 1978) offer 47 rooms with 86 beds, 13 vacation apartments, an indoor swimming pool, sauna, solarium, and the "unforgettable" restaurant and coffee house with exceptional service and culinary quality.
